Unselfconscious

I love taking pictures of beautiful details in nature and every day I'm learning more about how to use my equipment in service of my heart and eye.  But what I really crave mastery is in taking pictures of people.  This to me is the challenge: to shoot a moving target, to capture a sense of a person's spirit (but hopefully not, as the indigenous people I met in southern Mexico believed, steal a piece of their soul).

I feel like shooting people brings a special responsibility which is perhaps why it makes me so nervous.  But I have realized that I adore taking pictures of children.  I attribute this to two things:  the immense amount of practice I have gotten from shooting thousands of frames of my own son and the delicious unselfconsciousness children just naturally have around the camera.  The sense of satisfaction I feel when I upload a shot I really love is the best possible feedback.
